IP Address Lookup
Enter any IP address to see its version, classification, network/registry details from RDAP, and reverse DNS. Private and reserved IPs are handled locally.
Your input is used for this one lookup only. It is not logged or stored.
Results
Location accuracy
IP geolocation is approximate and may identify the network provider or gateway rather than the user’s actual location.
How to read the results
Classification tells you whether the address is public or a special-use type (private, loopback, documentation, etc.). Network and registry come from RDAP. Reverse DNS is the PTR record, if any. Country is shown only when reliable registry data provides it.
Common special-use types
- Loopback, Private (RFC 1918), Link-local, Carrier-grade NAT, Documentation, Multicast, Reserved, Unspecified.
When you would use this
- Identify which provider owns an address that appears in your server logs.
- Confirm whether an address is public before allowlisting it in a firewall.
- Check the PTR record of a mail server that is failing reverse-DNS checks — see Reverse DNS Lookup.
- Find the surrounding network block, then size it with the subnet calculator.

Frequently asked questions
Is the location exact?
No. IP geolocation is approximate and often identifies the network provider or gateway, not the user. We only show location when a data provider is configured — otherwise it is omitted rather than guessed.
What happens with private IPs?
Private, reserved and special-use addresses are classified locally in your browser/our server and are never sent to any external lookup service.
What is an ASN?
An Autonomous System Number identifies a network operator on the internet. It comes from registry (RDAP) data.
